JASON TAYLOR FOUNDATION TO HOST 3CiNTERACTIVE JT’S PING-PONG SMASH 9 – PRESENTED BY PUBLIX
WESTON – Even in retirement, Miami Dolphins legendary defender, Jason Taylor, is finding ways to keep his competitive juices flowing! However, while he won’t be chasing quarterbacks, he still expects to “smash” his opponents. Taylor is preparing for one of his most popular charity events, the 3Cinteractive JT’s Ping-Pong Smash 9 – Presented by Publix, the original celebrity, doubles table-tennis tournament. Proceeds from the event, which will take place on Monday, December 17th at Hard Rock Live at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Fla., will benefit the Jason Taylor Foundation, whose mission is to support and create programs that facilitate the personal growth and empowerment of South Florida’s children in need by focusing on improved health care, education and quality of life.

This one-of-a-kind event will once again pair community members with some of the Sunshine State’s most recognizable personalities from the worlds of sports and entertainment, including Taylor, as well as many current and former Miami Dolphins players. The duos will compete in a round-robin style ping-pong tournament while raising money for local children’s charities. The fun-filled, electric atmosphere will also feature DJ Laz of DJ 106.7 FM, along with Power Parties DJs & Lighting filling the arena with today’s hottest music, in addition to the Best Buy Fun Zone, where those in attendance can enjoy a Best Buy gaming station, hair cuts, interactive games and more!

Prior to the action that evening, the Jason Taylor Foundation will hold the fifth-annual Ping-Pong Smash Kids Clinic – Presented by the Miami Dolphins. Nearly 100 deserving children will have the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of the world’s fastest sport from former Puerto Rican Junior National Table Tennis Champion and two-time JT’s Ping-Pong Smash Champion, Juan Ly. The Kids Clinic will take place from 3:00 – 5:00 PM, also at Hard Rock Live.

Following the event, participants will attend the Hooters Champions’ Celebration to take part in the awards ceremony, a silent auction and loads of fun!

Jen Klaassens and our own Kim Sweers have announced the recipients of 2012 March of Dimes Women of Distinction Annual Award, which is designed to honor women whose achievements, both professionally and personally, serve as an example to the Broward County community.

This year’s honorees include: Ashley Boxer Dalley, corporate manager of government and community relations for Baptist Health South Florida in Broward County; Bella Cabrera, chief nursing officer of the Memorial Healthcare System; Dr. Marga Figueroa, a neonatologist at Broward Health’s Chris Evert Children’s Hospital; Anne Orvieto, a flutist with the 95-piece Greater Miami Symphonic Band; Stacy Ostrau, Society Scene publisher and community affairs manager of Sun Sentinel; Taren Ruggiero, executive director of nursing at Holy Cross Hospital; Marcella M. Rutherford, dean of the College of Nursing at Nova Southeastern University; Barbara Sharief, Broward County Commissioner; and Mindy Shrago, executive director of Young at Art Museum.

The 2012 March of Dimes Women of Distinction will be recognized at a luncheon, on Dec. 13, at the Marriott Harbor Beach Resort & Spa in Fort Lauderdale from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tickets are $85 in advance or $95 at the door.

The mission of the March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.
