Hammer Down Boating recently caught up with our own Randy Sweers, Owner and Throttleman for the #33 Racing For Cancer-AutoNation Super Boat, as he was getting prepared for this weekend’s DOUBLE POINTS race in Michigan City! Currently, Randy and the team are in 4th place in the National Standings, just 570 points behind the series leader, US-1 STIHL.
Here’s the latest from Randy:
We are ready: “The boat arrived to Michigan City late yesterday, after some minor mechanical set backs in Sarasota; the tunnel tab broke off, and we lost a oil press on the starboard motor momentarily. We’re ready to get back in the game, in Michigan City.”
New power: “We have not had a good year thus far, but now with switching to the Ilmor power, I think we are moving in the right direction.”
New driver: “We have had a “shake up” in the Drivers position, as Tony Fiorillo has had to bow out for the rest of the season, due to some unforeseen issues. My new driver, Jeff Bentley, has stepped in. Jeff lacks in experience at the helm, but certainly makes up for it in desire and enthusiasm!! His first time in a Cat, and first time racing, was at Lake Ozarks last month. Once he got comfortable, he did a great job… He knows, in Michigan City, we will have a lot more boats on the course to contend with, and this course is set up as right hand turns rather than left.. This will take some getting used to for Jeff, but he’ll take to it quickly.”
Closing thoughts: “The boat is ready and we are eager to get out and race.. lets see if we can get #33 up to the front this race; our goal in Sarasota was to finish, and we achieved this, along with a 4th place. Now we need to get in the top 3… one step at a time!!”
Join us in wishing Randy and the team the best of luck this weekend, as they take to the legendary waters of Lake Michigan! If you can’t make it out to the race, you can keep up with all of the action via the Official Super Boat International Livestream, here.
